Why I'm Starting a Direct Primary Care Practice
After more than two decades in traditional pediatric practice, I've watched the healthcare system make it increasingly difficult to provide the kind of care families deserve. Insurance companies dictate how much time I can spend with patients, what treatments I can recommend, and how I document every interaction. The administrative burden has become overwhelming, and worst of all—it takes time away from what matters most: caring for children.
That's why I'm launching Whole Pediatrics Group as a direct primary care practice—so I can focus on your child's health instead of insurance paperwork. I'm extremely grateful and excited for this next phase as a pediatrician. I will be able to serve patients and families in a different capacity compared to the previous 25 years.
In traditional practice, doctors are forced to see 30-40 patients a day, leaving barely 10 minutes per child. That's not enough time to provide real care. With direct primary care, I can spend extended time with each family, answer all your questions, and actually get to know your child as a person—not just a chart number.
This practice will intentionally be built to be a "low-volume" practice, with a goal of between 400-600 patients maximum. This will allow me to provide the quality of care and attention that every parent would want from their pediatrician.
My Philosophy
Every child deserves a pediatrician who actually knows them.
I believe in taking time to listen—to parents' concerns, to children's needs, and to what's not being said. Good pediatric care isn't just about treating illness; it's about building trust, preventing problems before they start, and being available when families need guidance.
My approach to pediatric care is built on these core principles:
• Unhurried appointments. You'll never feel rushed. We'll take the time needed to address all your concerns.
• Direct access. When your child is sick, you shouldn't have to wait days for an appointment or navigate a phone tree. You'll have my direct contact.
• Preventive focus. I believe in catching problems early and helping families build healthy habits that last a lifetime.
• Bilingual care. I'm fluent in both English and Spanish, and I'm committed to serving families from all backgrounds with culturally sensitive care.
• Partnership with parents. You know your child best. My job is to listen, guide, and support your family's health decisions.
Beyond Medicine
When I'm not caring for patients, I enjoy watching basketball, photography, building and fixing things, technology, 3D printing, and exploring different music genres. Most importantly, I love spending time with my family.
I'm also actively involved in community service, including annual medical mission trips to Mexico and Central America, and serving vulnerable populations in my home community. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to providing accessible, compassionate healthcare to all families—regardless of their background or circumstances.
